Lojong: Training the Mind
Details
Beginning the new year, we will be looking at a foundational Kadampa text called "Training the Mind in Seven Points," or Lojong in Tibetan. This beloved text is from Geshe Chekhawa, a prolific Kadampa Buddhist meditation master of the 12th century. Before this text, these special teachings of Buddha were kept secret, given only to particular select disciples. Geshe Chekhawa was inspired to learn these teachings when he came upon Geshe Langri Tangpa's famous line, "May I take defeat upon myself, and offer the victory to others."
These teachings reveal how sincere Buddhist practitioners can transform adverse conditions into the path to enlightenment, principally, by developing their own compassion. In these modern times of so much violence, greed and confusion, these teachings invite us into a completely different possibility, one that leads ultimately to profound and abiding inner peace, great beauty of perception, and the capacity to bring others out of suffering.
It is not necessary to be a Buddhist to enjoy and benefit from these classes. Each class includes meditation practice, teachings, time for questions and discussion, and practical suggestions for how to integrate the teachings into our daily lives. All levels are welcome. These are drop-in classes, so please feel free to come as you are able.
