Transition Time
Details
Transition Time: Beginning on Tuesdays, June 2nd, we will be moving our class from Thursday to Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:00. All classes henceforth will occur on Tuesday evenings.
Summer classes will also begin seeing two teachers, sometimes perhaps three, taking turns teaching in order to provide Worcester participants with ongoing meditation practice and training within the Buddhist tradition.
Monique Lucey, long term practitioner, will join Lloyd Williams on this new teaching team. Anika Trancik, the resident teacher at our "mother center," Atisha Kadampa Buddhist Center in Providence RI, will also be making appearances in Worcester more frequently as the summer months move into September. (These changes all anticipate Lloyd's move out of state sometime next spring/summer. Further details down the road.)
It is more important than ever for people to have the opportunity to engage consciously and skillfully in spiritual development. Our world's technological and material "progress" has not led to a kinder more peaceful, less stressful world for ourselves, our children, or future generations globally. On the contrary, we are witnessing more destructive forces chaotically playing out than ever before - more war, more devastation of communities and families, more displacement, more desperate refugees, more mass movement of entire populations, more violent death, more poverty, increasing environmental destruction, more toxins in our food chain and water, more climate and weather challenges, new diseases, with new threats also to entire governmental systems that have been "stable" for hundreds of years.
This decline occurs because "the world" is a reflection of the minds that create the world, and our minds are not pervasively peaceful, clear, wise, compassionate or loving. They are generally competitive, anxious, fearful, ego-centric, confused, consumptive, irritable and judgmental. These types of mind cannot create a peaceful loving inner or outer world for ourselves, much less for others. As Geshe Kelsang Gyatso says, "There can be no outer peace, without inner peace."
Please join us on Tuesday evenings, as we continue to explore, share, and practice together the priceless teachings of our historical Buddha, the "awakened one," teaching us how we too can awaken spiritually and thereby bring deep abiding inner peace to our minds which will then begin transforming the world that appears back to us.
Everyone is welcome, all levels including beginner. Classes are "drop in," so please enjoy as you are able.
