Plant based Potluck Celebration at Trout Lake Park
Details
Note: "The below event is organized by the "Meatless Meetup" and their description is taken from their events page. Who wants to join us for this great event?"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Join us for a summer potluck at the beautiful Trout Lake Park on a warm, sunny evening! This is our final large park event of the year. We will be celebrating in style sharing beautiful food offerings and welcoming company. Bring your family, and human and canine friends! Or, just bring yourself and make new friends!
You will find us under the large Willow tree in front of the large covered picnic area and beside the playground at John Henry (Trout Lake) Park. The entrance is at East 19th Avenue @ BC Parkway. This is at the South end of the park, near the washrooms and concession. There is a free parking lot at the entrance, as well as free street parking. See the Google map for the exact pinned location, as well as the attached photos.
We ask that each person bring a vegan dish serving 8 to share (free of all animal products, including dairy, eggs, honey and gelatin) with a serving utensil (*important*), plus a plate and cutlery for your own meal. Please also bring an ingredients list for your dish. We will be asking for a (suggested) $2 donation to help cover the costs of this event.
**THERE WILL BE PRIZES FOR THE BEST HOME-MADE APPETIZER, ENTREE, AND DESSERT, SO MAKE SOMETHING TO WOW OUR TASTEBUDS IF YOU WISH TO CONTEND!**
If you aren't familiar with veggie cooking, you can bring a fresh fruit salad, which is always a hit in the summertime. Bringing a store-bought dish is also perfectly acceptable. Feel free to post in the comments below what you will be offering! We will have stickers to label dishes as raw and/or gluten-free.
DO YOU HAVE A TALENT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?
We will be having a fun "talent" show for some lovely entertainment! So if you sing, play an instrument, tell jokes, do gymnastics, or even have a community campaign you would like to tell us about, please send your host Alison an email (PM) here and I will sign you up! We will have a microphone and input jacks to plug in your audio as needed. Karaoke is an option, too!
Schedule:
- 5:30-6:15pm - arrival and check-in, mix and mingle
- 6:15pm - food judging
- 6:30pm - eat! (volunteers first)
- 7:00pm - announcing of best dish prize winners
- 7:05pm - talent show/open mic/karaoke and community announcements
Bring a blanket or chair to sit on in the grass. Frisbees, balls, and badminton are also welcome. We will be well-shaded by the abundant Willow tree.
Please let us know when you RSVP if you'd be willing to help with set up, check-in, or food table monitoring. Volunteers get to eat first, and help this event to succeed!
We look forward to seeing you for another delightful evening of summer social time with like-minded folks and a bountiful and delicious plant-based dinner.
