April Book Club on Iran: All the Shah's Men
Details
Welcome to Meet the Moment Book Club, where we read books that meet the moment and make sense of it all together. Please see our group page for a list of upcoming books!
At this inaugural book club event, we'll decipher the current Iran War together by examining the long, violent history between the US and Iran, via "All the Shah's Men" by Stephen Kinzer.
This is the book that the Trump administration should have read before going to war with Iran. Even the preface to the 2008 edition alone, titled "The Folly of Attacking Iran," is shockingly relevant today.
"With a thrilling narrative that sheds much light on recent events, this national bestseller brings to life the 1953 CIA coup in Iran that ousted the country’s elected prime minister, ushered in a quarter-century of brutal rule under the Shah, and stimulated the rise of Islamic fundamentalism and anti-Americanism in the Middle East. Selected as one of the best books of the year by the Washington Post and The Economist, it now features a new preface by the author on the folly of attacking Iran." https://www.amazon.com.au/All-Shahs-Men-American-Middle-ebook/dp/B00JJZTJIQ
"Stephen Kinzer is an award-winning foreign correspondent who has covered more than 50 countries on five continents. His articles and books have led the Washington Post to place him 'among the best in popular foreign policy storytelling.'"

We will be meeting at the Market St. Garden Bar right after the April Books & Bevvies Meetup.
It's okay if you haven't finished the book by the time of the event, but the more the merrier!
There's no fee, but please purchase your own food/drinks from the venue.
If the RSVP list is full, please join the waiting list as there will likely be fluctuations closer to the date. If you RSVP'ed and can't make it, please edit your RSVP so that others can attend.
Look forward to seeing you there!
