What we’re about
At The Loss Foundation we host online support groups and get-togethers for people who have lost a loved one to cancer - be it partner, parent, sibling, friend, family member, colleague, or someone else. Our meet ups give you the chance to meet someone like you who "gets it". We tell you the meeting point, and it's over to you to walk and talk, grab a coffee, have a bite to eat, depending on our location. Come along and join us - you can talk, you can cry, you you may make a friend for life. Anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer is welcome to join.
Please note that we are unable to respond to messages through MeetUp outside of office working hours.
If you are having any difficulty with registering for the group, please email us at hello@thelossfoundation.org rather than through MeetUp and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

•OnlineOnline Christmas Day Get-together - Meeting others in cancer loss 25.12.25
Online# Theme: This support group is open to anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer
Join our online Christmas Day get-together event on Thursday morning 25th December 2025 from 9:00-10:00am.
We know that Christmas can be a particularly difficult time when a loved one has died. It may be that you want to avoid Christmas all together. You do what you need to do, and know that you can join this event to meet others who are also experiencing grief at this time of year.
This particular session will be partly facilitated and a mixture of one of our grief support meetings and an online social to meet others who have lost a loved one to cancer.
Our founder Dr Erin Thompson will be hosting the event and will welcome you and run through some guidelines. She will help introduce the group and then be leaving you to talk privately with one another. The aim is to make the session as close to meeting in person as possible… we know it’s very different, but the aim is just to meet and chat with others who have experienced a similar loss. And it is okay to not talk about your loss too! You do what you need to do.
We will NOT be limiting the number of people who are able to register for our online get-together events. We think there should be events that don’t have a waiting list attached to them.
It may be that just a small group of people turn up. However, if we have a lot of people joining for the event, we will welcome you all together and create breakout rooms online so that people can speak in smaller groups.
This event is for people aged 18 and over. Please get in touch with us if you are looking for support for children so we can signpost you to other organisations.
How will this work?
To join this group and secure your place you will need to register in advance by completing the brief survey through the link below:
https://survey.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_39n0IGyqJPh7nz8
You will be sent an email with instructions for joining the video and you can click in at the time of the meeting to get started and meet others.
Please note that we are not a crisis service, so if you are in need of immediate support please do reach out to Samaritans who provide immediate listening support. They can be reached on 116 123.
Much like our in-person events, our online support groups are informal and welcoming, and the space is there for you to use it as you need it on the day. Our excellent volunteers will be there to welcome you online and support you.
We send all participants a short survey after the session to get their feedback so that we can improve our services for all. Thank you for your contribution in helping us improve our support.

Swinley Forest Walk and Talk for Cancer Loss, Bracknell, Berkshire, 11.01.26
Savernake Park, Savernake way,, Winkfield Row, GB# Walk and Talk – Swinley Forest Walk, Bracknell, Berkshire – Loss to Cancer
## 11th January @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Who is this walk for?
This walk is for adults (18+) who have lost a loved one to cancer. It’s a space to connect with others who truly understand, in a supportive and relaxed environment.
Where will we be walking?
The walk will start at Savernake Pond and go around Swinley Forest and back. It will last approximately an 45 mins.
Feeling nervous?
We understand that joining a group like this might feel daunting – it’s completely normal to feel unsure. Many of our walkers have felt the same way at first. Rest assured, this is a welcoming and supportive space. You can take things at your own pace, and there’s no pressure to talk more than you feel comfortable. Here is a quote from one of our previous walkers:
“It was a small enough group that we could engage in deeper conversation. We all went for coffee afterwards. Honestly, the best grief event I’ve ever attended. Thank you Loss Foundation!!”
What to expect:
- A small group of up to 10 walkers to keep things intimate and comfortable.
- A friendly volunteer host who will walk and chat with you, making sure everyone feels at ease.
- The chance to spend time outdoors with people who’ve experienced similar loss.
We ask that you let us know in advance if you’d like to bring a guest (as spaces are limited) and kindly note that pets and children cannot join the walk.
What are the timings for the day?
Walkers will be meeting at 10am. We aim to complete the walk around an hour later, at approximately 11am. This will be a very casual walk.
Who is the host?
Our lovely volunteer Rebecca will be hosting this walk. She will have a yellow Loss Foundation sign and will be wearing a lanyard.

Do I need to be a professional walker?
Definitely not. The event is about being together, spending time with others who have experienced similar things, and being outdoors. It’s not about being fit or racing. There are a couple of slight inclines so if anyone has mobility issues please let me know in advance and we will find another route.
How do I get involved?
To register for this event you will need to complete the registration form below:
https://survey.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_a2XB4fXtjPB55Lo
Once you have completed the survey you will receive a confirmation email with full details for the walk.
We are unable to respond to messages through MeetUp outside of office working hours. If you are having any difficulty with registering for the group, please email us at hello@thelossfoundation.org rather than through MeetUp and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Please note that we do not allow guests unless you let us know in advance (as we are capping the number of attendees for each walk).
Pets and children are also not able to attend.
Please note that we are not a crisis service, so if you are in need of immediate support please do reach out to Samaritans who provide immediate listening support. They can be reached on 116 123.
