About the film: Copie Conforme (English title: Certified Copy) is a 2010 art film. Set in Tuscany, the film focuses on a British writer (William Shimell) and a French antiques dealer (Juliette Binoche), whose relationship undergoes an odd transformation over the course of a day. The film is a co-production of France, Italy and Belgium.
The film premiered at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, where Binoche won the Best Actress award for her performance. Critically acclaimed, the film is considered to be among the best of the year and the decade.
Interesting facts: There were various difficulties in casting the male role with Sami Frey (French actor) opposite Binoche. Then François Cluzet (a French film and theatre actor) was supposed to take the male lead. At some point Robert De Niro was in negotiation for the role, but eventually it was offered to William Shimell, a baritone opera singer who had never acted in a film before.
About the actress: Juliette Binoche (born in March 1964) is a French actress. She has appeared in more than 60 films, particularly in French and English, and has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award and a César Award. She is also the only actress - along with Julianne Moore - to have won an acting award at the world's three major film festivals (a Volpi Cup, the Silver Bear for Best Actress and the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress).
