Camping at Cedar Flat Group Campground

Details

Weekend camping trip at Cedar Flat Group Campground. About a 4 hour drive from LA area.

About the campsite: Maximum of 35 people allowed and 10 cars, so carpooling is required if we get enough people interested. There will be picnic tables, fire rings, BBQ, and vault toilets. No water or electric hookups. Tents or car camping preferred.

Getting there: If you search “Cedar Flat Group Campground" on Apple Maps or "Cedar Flat Group Camps" on Google Maps, it should pop up. From the town of Big Pine, head east on 168 for about 11.5 miles. Be cautioned: Highway 168 is steep and narrow so be careful.
Coordinates are: 37° 16' 37.2299" N 118° 9' 5.2999" W

Activities: The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is only 30 minutes away. Various hikes available in the area. Great place for stargazing. Bishop and Big Pine are both nearby if you’d like to venture into town. Feel free to bring whatever campsite activities you may enjoy - cards, soccer ball, frisbee, bikes, alcohol, etc.

Important Things to Note:

  • The closest water, food, and gas is 12 miles away, so do not show up on an empty tank!
  • There will be a fee for this trip (for the campsite reservation, firewood, and breakfasts). It'll be based on the number of people going - should be fairly cheap - less than $30.
  • We will be doing group breakfasts - plan is eggs, bacon, and hash browns or potatoes
  • If you have any dietary restrictions, please let me know ahead of time or you are also welcome to bring your own food for breakfast
  • If you want to bring firewood beyond what we'll purchase for the group, please purchase firewood in one of the nearby towns, do not bring it from another region!
  • There will likely be no cell service at the campsite. If you drive back into Bishop or Big Pine, there should be service there.
