Narrow-Gauge Rail Trail - Part 2
Details
The Narrow-Gauge Rail-Trail uses the roadbed of the country’s first two-foot-gauge common-carrier railway (less than half today's standard) - the Billerica & Bedford Railroad. It extends northward three miles from Loomis Street to the Bedford-Billerica town line. We'll do an afternoon out and back walk from Bedford Depot northward and around the sunny side of Fawn Lake for a total of about 4 miles with an option to extend the walk an additional 2 miles. This is an easy, flat trail that is paved in some areas and some roots near the lake.
Substitute extra foot traction or trekking poles for bug spray in the standard language below.
The Walking Group is joining The Exploring Group on this event.
Remember the rules:
- You are adults and are expected to make decisions about your own safety and physical abilities.
- Wear appropriate footwear and bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and bug spray.
- Move to the side for oncoming walkers on narrow trails.
- If you decide to return to your car early or leave the group for any other reason, tell someone.
- If you are struggling or need assistance, tell someone.
- Be friendly. Be social. Have fun.
