Hike: Kronberg to großer Feldberg - The tallest mountain close to Frankfurt

Details

The Hike
We will meet in Frankfurt main train station track 104 at 08:55 o'clock to catch S4 towards Kronberg(Taunus). From Kronberg station we head out to großer Feldberg. This is the tallest summit close to Frankfurt. The elevation gain is 624 meter and the one way distance to the summit is 9 km which makes a total distance of 18 km. Thus, you need to be at least a bit sporty to make it in time. In any case you need proper footwear. Designer shoes will not work. You need at least running boots or you will regret your decision to join the hike during the hike and the week following the hike. Ideally you also wear some sports pants. We will also need at least 1 liter of water and a jacket. I also recommend some food unless you want to buy it at the summit.
The trail (please click here to see a map) leads through a park in Kronberg and then to Fuchstanz (fox dance), which is a well known and populated meeting spot with restaurants. Then we hike uphill surrounded by forrest until we reach the summit which is well developed and has all the facilities needed, as shown in the picture. There we will have a good view towards Frankfurt and its surroundings. This is going to add to several outlook possibilities along the way. Also the forrest itself is quiet beautiful.

After a break at the summit we will turn around and hike back to Kronberg on a trail parallel to the one along which we have hiked uphill.

I will monitor the weather and update you in case of bad weather.

If you plan to join, be on time for the hike, as we cannot afford to wait for more than 3-5 minutes before starting. The group will NOT wait for those arriving late.

General:
It is recommended

  1. to wear clothes and footwear suitable for hiking
  2. to have enough water to drink.
  3. that you do your best to stay with the group and not to fall too far behind. We will take short breaks to catch our breath when necessary, but generally speaking, do not get too lost in your conversations to make you fall behind too much. It is your responsibility to stay with the group.

No-shows:
If you are not going to join the hike - or are not sure of it - please remove yourself from the participants' list to make way for the people on the waiting list. Please do so as soon as you can and also by no later than 5pm the day before the event, as enough time should be provided for people on the waiting list to be informed and for them to plan/replan their evening and the next day for the hike.
Failing to remove yourself from the participants' list in time or being a NO-SHOW will result in it being more difficult for you to join future hikes as your participation will be deprioritised below other participants who followed this guidance. Thank you for understanding this and being considerate and respectful of others.
Weather:
If there will be rain forecasted, the hike will be cancelled or moved. A confirmation of this hike will be sent here in the comments one day before.

Please be aware of your surroundings and keep yourself safe during the hike. You take full responsibility for your own safety during the hike. The organizer is not a professional hike leader.
