What we're about

This group is for photographers at all levels from beginner to experienced. Whether you carry a digital camera, film camera, or a pinhole camera, all are welcome! These meetups are designed to visit a variety of places, share ideas and pointers with other members, and occasionally conclude the meet-up with an optional coffee, happy-hour, lunch, etc. And most importantly, have fun!

Some meet-ups will be mid-week, others on the weekends and mostly within the Portland metro area, or within an hour’s drive. Suggestions for future meet-ups are always welcome.

These events take a lot of planning and organization. Therefore, if you RSVP, out of respect to the Organizers, attendees, and people on the waiting list, please cancel at least 24 hours in advance. There is a No-Show Policy for this group effective 5/1/19: For those who do not cancel their RSVP and also do not show up, there is a "3 times No-Show you're out for 6 months" rule enforced.

Starting April 29, 2019, there is an annual fee of $10 to help cover expenses charged by Meet-up.com. You can try us out free for 30 days.

Hope to see you soon!

Falls Creek Falls!

Falls Creek Falls Trailhead

Please join me for a spectacular hike to photograph the beautiful Falls Creek Falls in Washington! This is about 90 minutes from Portland. NOTE 6/21/19: Total round-trip distance is approximately 4 miles, with a 700’ elevation gain. NOTE 6/23/19: The final section of road to the trailhead is a Forest Service gravel road, not very well maintained. Recommend (not required) a high clearance vehicle or carpool with another member who has one. Though possessing a name which may suggest a less interesting (albeit fitting) subject, Falls Creek Falls is among the largest and most powerful waterfalls in southern Washington. Fed by an extensive network of springs and streams originating on the Red Mountain plateau - itself a product of the volcanic eruptions which created nearby Big Lava Field - Falls Creek sends a considerable volume of water hurtling 335 feet over its valley's headwall in three distinct steps. The upper tier veils 109 feet in a broad fan-shaped fall which skips down the initial tier of the cliff. Shortly after, the creek spreads out to a breadth of over 100-feet across a gently domed ledge and plunges 135 feet in several segments. After gathering through a cluster of large boulders which have fallen off the adjacent cliffs, the third tier leaps a final 91-feet into a narrow amphitheater gorge. Climbing through a 30 to 60-year-old forest, a cable suspension bridge spans a rock gorge providing spectacular views of the white water of Falls Creek. Total round-trip distance is approximately 4 miles, with a 700’ elevation gain. There are restrooms at the trailhead. Parking is FREE! I am not arranging carpools, but if confirmed attendees want to share rides, feel free to post ride requests/offers on this specific Meet-up and work out your own details. You can Google Falls Creek Falls to get an idea of how to get there. We will be taking trail #152A and meeting in the parking lot. See map and location on this Meet-up. An optional lunch after at a very special, less well-known local brewpub in the area. Hope to see you there!
