What we're about

Dharma Friends supports silent meditation practice in Toronto's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied community, based in diverse Buddhist and mindfulness philosophies and methods. We cultivate a social environment that is inclusive and caring, and welcome anyone who embraces LGBT people as equals.

We are run by a volunteer committee of members, who take turns facilitating our weekly silent sitting and walking meditations. We host a few speakers each year, but largely serve as a space and community to support individually led meditation practice.

There is no fee or procedure required to attend our group, although donations are gratefully accepted. Funds go toward visiting speakers, and to cover costs such as tea, cookies, and insurance.

Dharma Friends meets each Wednesday evening:
177 Mutual Street, 2nd floor community room, entry code 270.
The room opens at 7:00pm, and our sittings start promptly at 7:30.

For more info about our sittings, meditation, and our group find us here: http://www.dharmafriends.ca

LGBTQ+ Silent Meditation

177 Mutual Street, Party Room (Second Floor)

We meet every Wednesday evening. Doors open at 7pm, meditation from 7:30 - 9:00pm. Silent sitting and walking meditation. Usually we begin with a brief reading or teaching on some aspect of Buddhist philosophy, mindfulness or meditation practice. We then normally do three 20-minute silent sitting meditations, alternating with two 10-minute silent walking meditations. The transitions between sitting and walking are marked by a bell. Afterwards we have tea, cookies and social time, usually wrapping up the evening by 9:30. We have occasional speakers, and basic instruction can be provided on request. See our website for details and contact information. There is no fee to attend, but donations are gratefully accepted to cover our costs.
