"Who gets promoted? Based on what?"

Details

Inspired by the 2018 talk that went viral from Tanya Reilly, Principal Software Engineer at Squarespace (New York) - "Being Glue", we are going to fuel the conversation on who gets promoted, based on what.

Speaker profile:

Victor Kovalev (https://www.linkedin.com/in/kovalevvictor/)

Victor is the CTO and Global Head of Product at MedAdvisor, helping patients around the world manage their medications and providing crucial healthcare adherence and education services. Prior to that, having gone through 3 IPOs, Victor has been leading technology teams in the industry including as CTO of Redbubble, VP of Engineering at Indiegogo, and leadership roles at Yelp & VMware. Victor is also a co-founder at ScaleGrowth, a platform that connects awesome startups with world-class advisors, accelerators, and VCs to build effective relationships that drive success. His passion & expertise are in building driven cultures to foster radical innovation through rapid scaling. He has a degree in Robotics & Artificial Intelligence from Georgia Tech.

What we're going to cover

Running it as a whiteboarding and group interactive session, Victor will share his experience and examples of successful strategies adopted at Indiegogo, Redbubble and MedAdvisor.

------------------------------------------------------

What will you get out of this

  • Understanding of two distinct leadership streams and how diversity plays into it
  • How to create a promotion criteria that rewards both types of leadership
  • Turning glue work outcomes into hard business metrics, best practice in reporting to boards
  • Creating harmony between the extremes and publicly demonstrating your company's value systems

------------------------------------------------------

Who will benefit from this

  • Engineering managers, CTO, founders, leaders and decision makers
  • Engineers championing opposite sides of the spectrum, i.e. experts in technical & project deliverables vs people & culture enablers
  • Not limiting to engineers or techies, the strategies here would benefit managers and any business looking to reward different champions in the right way

------------------------------------------------------

As always there will be pizza and drinks to enjoy while networking with others who are also keen to get involved with the conversation on getting more women in tech in Australian organisations. But this meetup is more than just talk, we're kind of into action too, so come prepared to get involved. No experience in diversity required, just an interest in making a difference.
