What we're about
A group of parents who believe in the Forest School approach. "Forest School is an inspiration process that offers all learners opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self esteem through hands on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.."
We want to encourage the holistic development of this generation by allowing uninhibited play with others outdoors. Each week, rain or shine, we will hold an event where everyone unplugs and gets (probably) messy in nature. We will take hikes, allow child led free play, have snack time, listen to a story, sing songs and dance. We will choose multiple different sites and cities around the metro Detroit area.
*Children today are spending on average 6 hours in front of screens, time that previous generations spent in outdoor free play. Current recommendations on time spent in free outdoor play by age as follows:
0-1 year- multiple opportunities throughout the day to be active outdoors. Yes, even infants benefit greatly! Physical activity encourages organization of the sensory system and important motor development. 1-5 years- 5 to 8 hours a day toddlers will naturally be very active and curious about their environment, seeking out the movement experiences they need in order to develop. Preschoolers learn about life, practice being an adult, and gain important sensory and movement experiences through active play.
