What we're about

Check out our Facebook and MeWe page links below!

This is a Christian based adventure club for people of faith who are interested in adventurous outdoor activities such as mountaineering, rock climbing, backpacking, camping, kayaking, etc. All skill levels and all ages are welcome. The group was created to provide a method for outdoor enthusiasts to connect with others who share a love for adventure and a passion for God. If this sounds like you, join us as we explore this incredible wonderland we live on.

NOTE: All official memberships and event registrations are handled through our main website at aif.Outdoors.com (http://aifoutdoors.org). Please visit us there and register as a member! We hope you can join us!

Open/Casual Track Workouts

Needs a location

PLEASE NOTE:

Please RSVP at least 24 hours in advance if possible to help us plan. If no RSVPs by 7pm the evening before, the event will be canceled.

All levels (and ages!) are welcome. Walkers, Joggers and Olympic hopefuls alike. Whether you're training for a local 10k, a backpacking/hiking adventure, or just trying to burn off some calories to lose weight, we would love to have you join us.

That's the great thing about a track workout is nobody gets left behind and lost. Some may just want to jog a few laps. Or maybe walk. But others may be doing intervals and sprints for serious competition, and others just to stay fit. We'll all share the track and have a blast.

Feel free to chat in the message section on what you might plan to do, and maybe others will join you. As for me, my plan is to be doing intervals. Maybe a slow mile warmup, followed by a few 400s, 200s, and 100s. Others are welcome to join me at their own pace, or maybe I'll join in someone else's plan.

I'm older than Moses and slower than a sloth, so nobody should feel intimidated, lol.

TEAM RECRUITMENT - Great American Triathlon (Formerly 'Eppies Great Race')

Link visible for attendees

NOTE: This is an interest list only. There is no actual event until next year's race (Approximately July 15th).

We're looking to find interested members to compete in next year's 'Great American Triathlon' (Formerly Eppie's Great Race). Whether competing as an individual ironperson or as a relay team, we would participate under the Adventures in Faith organization and possibly get some nice race shirts/jerseys made up for the event. Members who are not interested in racing could join the team as a support staff, assisting team members before or during the race, or just cheering them on.

For those interested in checking out THIS year's race, it is taking place this Saturday, July 16th. Find info HERE.

Here's the info on the race ...

# The Original Triathlon

Fuel your competitive fire and benefit local non-profits by competing in the Great American Triathlon, taking place July 16th, 2022 on the beautiful American River Parkway. With a challenging course set along one of the most beautiful urban landscapes in America, the no-swim triathlon is a 24.42 mile run, ride and paddle event unlike any other.

You can compete as an individual or as part of a team in race categories for all skill levels, from competitive triathletes to weekend warriors. The challenge of the no-swim triathlon is a real one, and the ebb and flow of the American River pits you against Mother Nature herself. Space is limited to 250 teams and 800 Ironperson competitors, so dust off your paddles, grab your friends, and sign up today to experience the next generation of fun in the Sacramento sun!

# Course Overview

The Great American Triathlon follows the historic route of Eppie’s Great Race, starting at William Pond Recreation Area with a 5.82-mile run leg along the American River Parkway to the Guy West Bridge near Sacramento State University. The 12.5-mile bike leg takes competitors back upstream on the paved bike path to the Lower Sunrise Recreation Area where the event transitions to the final leg, a 6.10 mile paddle down river to River Bend Park.

# Race Categories

The race features 35 categories. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in each category. Teams can be comprised of either two or three persons for single seat kayak and canoe participants, and up to four persons for the tandem seat kayak and canoe divisions. Competitors may enter only one team or ironperson division.

Introduction to Wilderness Hiking

Needs a location

$10.00

This will be a very low-key clinic in which we'll go over everything needed to prepare you for safe adventures on the trails.

NOTE: Please read all details prior to RSVP'ing.

There is a small $10 fee for this event (except for AIF Paid-Members and Lifetime Members). This is a fundraiser for Adventures in Faith. 100% of this fee goes toward paying for our group costs on Meetup, our website, and toward future group events. Please see below for payment instructions.

We've had many members tell us they're interested in getting into hiking but don't know how to get started. Either they don't know the trails, don't want to do long trails, don't have other friends who hike, or they lack navigation skills. Well, here's your chance!

Here's what we'll cover ...

  • Essential gear and equipment.
  • How to find local (and distant) trails.
  • Food & hydration.
  • Electronic navigation.
  • We'll also provide lists of the most popular trails in the surrounding area, various hiking groups, and some of the most useful hiking related phone apps available. And we'll teach you how to use these apps.

After going over all of this, we'll test out our new electronic navigation skills by heading out on a short hike to the river. After the hike, those interested can head up the street to the Smokey Oaks Tavern for some lunch! Come on out!

PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS
You may pay by credit card through Square ... https://square.link/u/mXq5mKVp

You can also use Venmo if you wish. If so, you would send to the Venmo ID ... @Gregor-Wakefield.

IMPORTANT:
Once paid, send me a message or email to let me know so I can apply it to the correct member, since most Meetup IDs are first name only.
