What we’re about

Our long-running mystery book club is on the lookout for a couple new members to join our monthly gatherings. Recently, a few of our beloved sleuths moved away in quick succession (no foul play suspected… we think), and we're hoping to fill their spots with fellow fans of twisty plots and red herrings. We moved the group off of Meetup when their fees became bananas and primarily keep in touch through email, but we’ve resuscitated it here temporarily to find some new readers.

We keep our group intentionally small, capped at ten members, so we all consider it a commitment to show up every month. Life happens of course, and sometimes things come up, but with such a small group absences make a big difference. We meet on the second Wednesday of the month (usually, we moved it to the third Wednesday for September) in the Arboretum area at 6-ish to order food and chat, and then dive into book discussion around 6:30.

We range in age from 30s to 70s and currently all of us are female, but this is not a requirement. We’re scattered across the political spectrum but generally don’t discuss politics—though it’s worth mentioning that none of us are Trump fans. We read a variety of mysteries but not usually anything too gritty or gory.

Yes, we do actually talk about the book—but in a relaxed, no-pressure way. You won’t need a PowerPoint or a list of annotated questions about theme or symbolism, although whoever chose the book often comes with background info about the setting or author or some interesting plot element from the book. No one will mind if you didn’t finish the book—come anyway, as long as you don’t mind spoilers.

Our next meeting is on September 17 to discuss “Listen for the Lie,” by Amy Tintera. If this sounds like your kind of group, we’d love to hear from you.
