Join us for an exciting day trip to explore the natural beauty and birdlife of Last Mountain Lake Bird Sanctuary! Located just under two hours from Saskatoon, this sanctuary offers breathtaking landscapes and a variety of short hiking trails perfect for nature enthusiasts. We hope to catch sight of the migrating birds during this time of year, adding to the thrill of our adventure!
Suggested Itinerary:

  • 8:45 AM: Meet at Stonebridge Tim Hortons in Saskatoon for carpooling. We'll depart promptly at 9:00 AM.
  • 10:45 AM: Arrive at the sanctuary and visit the Interpretive Pavilion to learn more about the site.
  • 11:00 AM: Hike the Shore-to-Sky Trail (30 minutes) for stunning lake views and birdwatching from observation towers.
  • 11:45 AM: Explore the Grasslands Trail (1 hour), a peaceful walk through prairie landscapes.
  • 1:30 PM: Hike the Wetland Trail (1.5 hours) and discover fascinating flora, fauna, and wetland habitats.
  • 3:00 PM: Wrap up your visit and relax with some free time to revisit observation towers or enjoy the scenery.
  • 3:45 PM: Stop at Grain & Pulse Bakery Cafe in Imperial for ice cream or dessert.
  • 4:00 PM: Depart the sanctuary and head back to Saskatoon.
  • 6:00 PM: Return to Saskatoon after a fulfilling day in nature.
    What to Bring: For this trip, it's recommended to bring the basics you would for any short hike. No special footwear is required. Consider packing:
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Water bottle
  • Snacks
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Binoculars for birdwatching
  • Camera to capture the beautiful scenery
