Wednesday 17th July The Blackfriar 174 Queen Victoria Street
The Daily Express, The Daily Telegraph and The Daily Mail have all relocated from here but their grand buildings still exist. The Evening Standard relocated from Shoe Lane to Finsbury Square in 2013, then became weekly in 2024. The Press Association and St Brides church are also in the area. When I checked this walk after 5 years I discovered that a huge development now covered several buildings I wanted to use and some were removed altogether. I must now reconfigure it to add in different history. We start at "The Blackfriar" instead of "The Old Bell". Sorry about short notice. It's very close to Blackfriars station.
This is a free event. I will be waiting for you inside the pub from 7.00 to 7.30. The walk begins at 7.30. I will be wearing a maroon shirt.
