Coastal circular walk taking in Noss Mayo

Details

The South West Coast Path from Revelstoke Car Park to Noss Mayo is one of my favorite stretches offering dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters, and the quaint fishing village of Noss Mayo. With sunshine and blue skies forecast for the weekend what better way to make the most of it!

This is an easy to moderate walk of 6-8 mile round trip and takes around 3-4 hours, although it will be longer to allow for lunch and a swim at Cellar Cove.

We will start at Revelstoke Car Park. From the car park, we will start with a gentle descent toward the coast that offers immediate views of the rugged shoreline and sparkling sea. The path hugs the cliff edge, winding through grassy slopes and rocky outcrops. There are panoramic views of Plymouth Sound to the east and the open sea to the south. We will pass Coastguard cottages which is perched dramatically on the cliffs and can is now used as holiday accommodation. From here, the coastline becomes more wild, with jagged rocks below and gulls overhead. We will stop at Cellar Cove, a secluded pebble beach nestled between cliffs, for a swim and a break. Please note that the path down to the beach is steep and rocky so wear appropriate shoes. As we follow the trail along the Yealm Estuary it becomes more lush until we arrive in Noss Mayo, a picturesque village with whitewashed cottages, a 16th-century church, and two welcoming pubs: The Ship Inn and The Swan Inn. Food and drink are available in both.

Please wear sturdy walking shoes or boots, as the path can be rocky and slippery. Please also bring water, snacks, and a swimsuit/towel if planning to swim as well as sun cream.

Admin Notes

There is a small fee of £2 per person for each walk (paid in cash on the day) to cover costs of running the group site on Meetup (£360 pa) and some minor expenses incurred when reconnoitring walks, mostly fuel and a pint.
This is a not for profit group intended as a social event for people who share an interest in the natural world. You are responsible for your own safety and welfare so please come appropriately dressed for a long rural walk taking account of the prevailing weather conditions. Should you participate in any foraging events, it is your own responsibility to identify, to your own satisfaction, anything you plan to eat. Some walks may involve an additional degree of physical challenge. If so, this will be clearly stated in the description. If you then choose to participate in these activities you do so at your risk.
