Otter spotting on the River Otter, Budleigh Salterton

Details

Have you ever seen an Otter in the wild in Devon? No, neither have I so here is your chance to change that because this walk follows the River Otter from Budleigh Salterton up past Otterton, and given the names of these places, surely we will spot at least one. Once we have spotted an Otter on the River Otter, we will then head east to join the South West Coast Path at the delightful Landram Bay holiday park. We will navigate our way swiftly through the park to pick up the SWCP which will follow the coastline passing memorable locations including Crab Ledge (look out for crabs), Brandy Head (look out for washed up barrels of Brandy), Black Head (pass on this one), and finally Danger Point (what could possibly go wrong?). We will then pick up the path back into Budleigh Salterton where we can enjoy an ice cream at the beach cafe. Budleigh Salterton beach is a pebble beach but very popular with visitors and definitely a place for a swim.

We will meet in the Lime Kiln car park adjacent to the beach. The parking for the period we're walking will be £8.80 (blame the council), so if you can find alternative spots please do.

This is a 10 mile walk with a total elevation of c900 ft so a reasonable level of fitness is required.

Admin Notes
There is a small fee of £2 per person for each walk (paid in cash on the day) to cover costs of running the group site on Meetup (£360 pa) and some minor expenses incurred when reconnoitring walks, mostly fuel and a pint.
This is a not for profit group intended as a social event for people who share an interest in the natural world. You are responsible for your own safety and welfare so please come appropriately dressed for a long rural walk taking account of the prevailing weather conditions. Should you participate in any foraging events, it is your own responsibility to identify, to your own satisfaction, anything you plan to eat. Some walks may involve an additional degree of physical challenge. If so, this will be clearly stated in the description. If you then choose to participate in these activities you do so at your risk.
