Bantham Coastal Circular

This is a moderate circular walk of about 17km taking in fabulous coastal views and scenic countryside. We will meet outside the Sloop Inn, Bantham, and head off through field paths and tracks until we hit the coast. From here, we will follow the SW coastal path, passing through the pretty fishing village of Hope Cove, walk alongside Thurlestone Golf Course and the RSPB nature reserve at South Milton Ley, a haven for birds like little egrets and swallows, and then round up the River Avon’s mouth back into Bantham. Along the way, we'll see fabulous views of Burgh Island, watch surfers at Bantham, dodge flying golf balls and see what wildlife we’re lucky enough to spot. We can stop for refreshments in Hope Cove en route and at the end at The Sloop Inn and if the weather’s good there are a couple of good spots for a swim.

There is pay and display parking in the car park at Bantham. Please bring swimming costume, water and refreshments.

Admin Notes

There is a small fee of £2 per person for each event (paid in cash on the day) to cover costs of running the group site on Meetup (£360 pa) and some minor expenses incurred when reconnoitring walks/rides, mostly fuel and a pint.
This is a not for profit group intended as a social event for people who share an interest in the natural world. You are responsible for your own safety and welfare so please come appropriately dressed for a long rural walk or ride taking account of the prevailing weather conditions. Should you participate in any foraging events, it is your own responsibility to identify, to your own satisfaction, anything you plan to eat. Some walks/rides may involve an additional degree of physical challenge. If so, this will be clearly stated in the description. If you then choose to participate in these activities you do so at your risk.
