Details

This walk from Staddon Heights to Wembury covers a stretch of the coast less often walked which is a shame as it offers stunning views of Plymouth Sound, the English Channel, and the surrounding coastline. Key sights include the coastal fortifications and batteries, the unique geology of Wembury Point, the Great Mew Stone offshore, and Wembury Church, a historic landmark. Wildlife such as cirl buntings and peregrine falcons can be spotted, and the area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its marine life and birds.

We will meet at Jennycliff car park – which has lots of space and is free 😊! From here we will follow the South West Coast Path along cliff tops, woodland and exposed coastal areas passing through Staddon Heights, Bovisand, Rum Bay, and Dunstone Point before reaching Wembury. Although it’s a moderate walk, there are some exposed areas, steep steps to climb, uneven terrain and ravine crossing bridges. Total distance is @16km, 470m ascent.

Please bring drink and snacks/food as there isn’t anywhere on route to buy anything. We will stop at Wembury for a break.

Admin Notes
There is a small fee of £2 per person for each event (paid in cash on the day) to cover costs of running the group site on Meetup (£360 pa) and some minor expenses incurred when reconnoitring walks/rides, mostly fuel and a pint.

This is a not for profit group intended as a social event for people who share an interest in the natural world. You are responsible for your own safety and welfare so please come appropriately dressed for a long rural walk or ride taking account of the prevailing weather conditions. Should you participate in any foraging events, it is your own responsibility to identify, to your own satisfaction, anything you plan to eat. Some walks/rides may involve an additional degree of physical challenge. If so, this will be clearly stated in the description. If you then choose to participate in these activities you do so at your risk.
