Curious about screenwriting and not sure where to start? This welcoming and practical workshop is designed for anyone keen to begin exploring screenwriting through short films, an ideal and achievable entry point into writing for the screen. This will take place in the John James room at the Windmill City Farm, Bristol on Sunday 8th Feb 2026, 1pm.

Across three hours, we will explore what makes a strong short film, the different structural approaches available to writers, and rules on formatting.

The workshop will also cover how to prepare for pitching and making a short film, how to develop realistic and producible concepts, and the key do’s and don’ts to keep in mind when starting out.

This is a beginner-focused and supportive workshop with a relaxed, social atmosphere. Participants are welcome to bring their own ideas for short films and receive feedback from others in the group. Alternatively, you can bring along a short story to experiment with adapting for the screen, or work from creative prompts provided on the day to help visualise story, evoke emotion, and explore character in depth.

Fun, accessible, and not too costly, this workshop offers a great first step into screenwriting while connecting with others who are just starting out. Please note there is a cafe next door for snacks/food,

Also coffee/tea is in the cafe, though basics of these will be provided..
