East Access Trailhead at the lower Heritage Square parking lot, northeast corner
Just minutes away from the city, lies a nice respite from the Metro- a 3.30-mile greenway-type trail gaining up to 1,500 feet in elevation. Apex Trail is located on the outskirts of Golden, Jefferson County.
Officially designated as one of America’s prized national recreation trails in 1978, Apex Trail continues to awe various bikers, runners, and hikers alike on its spectacular singletrack, moderate difficulty trail.
Directions from Denver:

  1. Take the 6th Ave. Freeway to I-70 West
  2. Exit I-70 just past the Morrison cut, taking exit 259 (US 40 at County Road 93)
  3. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right and continue down the hill on US 40 about 1 mile
  4. Take the right for Heritage Rd.
  5. In about 75 feet, take the first left onto a dirt road
  6. Follow the road into the parking lot. The trailhead is in the northeast corner. The trail is immediately next to Heritage Square.

Directions from Boulder:

  1. Take CO-93 S/Broadway to Golden
  2. Continue on to US-6 E
  3. Turn right onto Heritage Rd
  4. Continue through 3 traffic circles, staying straight on Heritage Rd
  5. Follow the road into the parking lot. The trailhead is in the northeast corner next to Heritage Square
