Ramadan is perhaps the happiest month the Muslim world experiences each year. Children grow up associating it with warmth and delight. Streets are decorated. Prayers are more consistently observed. Family recipes return to the table. Special television programming fills the evenings. Working hours shift. Sleep cycles change. In many ways, Ramadan becomes its own time zone — a parallel rhythm of life that feels separate from the rest of the year.
And yet, from the perspective of this writer, Ramadan today seems to have developed a blurred identity.
So I would like to open a discussion:

  • What is Ramadan to you?
  • What is the objective Ramadan is meant to accomplish?
  • How do current traditions support the spirit of Ramadan?
  • Where might they contradict it?
  • Has Ramadan become more cultural than spiritual?
  • Is the communal joy aligned with its inner purpose — or distracting from it?

Let us explore these questions openly and thoughtfully.

### Meetup Guidelines

To ensure a meaningful and respectful discussion:

  • Show up on time.
  • Be respectful.
  • Order something from the venue (coffee or snack) to support the space hosting us.
  • Argue for what is right — not to be right.
  • Meeting might end in 90 mins depending on flow.

The goal is not to win debates, but to seek understanding.
