The Coldale Horseshoe

Details

Distance - 15km
Time - 6 hours

From Keswick the peaks surrounding Coledale are an intriguing sight and many are linked at a high level making them ideal for a skyline walk that gains the summits in one round. Coledale is a classic U shaped valley typical of the Lake District, but has no habitation giving the surrounding peaks and ridges a pleasant wild feel. This is one of the classic Lake District circular horseshoe walks but not one to be undertaken lightly. It is a high level mountain walk with a few steep ascents and mild scrambles.

🚶 How hard is this walk?
This walk is difficult - a suitable level of fitness is necessary.

I have never walked with the group before and/or don't know anyone, can I still come?
Yes! This group is a great way to meet new people, socialise, get out in nature and improve your fitness. We welcome any and all people to come along.

🚗 I can't get to the walk, are lift shares available?
There are a few methods to look for lift shares:
- Post a comment on the event
• We also encourage people that are coming along to offer lift shares to others when possible.

🐶 Can I bring my dog?
Yes! Dogs are welcome provided they are well behaved around people/other dogs and kept on a lead/under control in areas where there may be livestock.

⚠️ Some walks may have stiles, and you may need to lift them over.
Coldale can pose a struggle for those dogs that are not used to long distances over rougher rockier terrain, as the summit is bouldery, so we’d recommend that taking a dog should be for the experienced hill walking dogs only.

📞 How can I contact the event organiser?
Send me a message with queries.
It is unlikely the walk leader will read messages on the day, especially minutes before the event starts, so please try to contact them in advance with queries.
