Details
In Philippine mythology, Amihan is a primordial wind deity, portrayed as a bird, who served as the mediator between the sky god, Bathala, and the sea goddess, Aman Sinaya.
In the legend, Bathala and Aman Sinaya were locked in a violent struggle for dominance. The sea goddess sent massive floods to the heavens, while the sky god hurled boulders into the ocean, which eventually formed the Philippine islands. Caught in the middle, Amihan sought to end the chaos. By weaving the elements of sky and sea together, the deity created a cosmic balance that forced the two gods to cease their warring. To celebrate this new era of peace, Amihan descended to earth in the form of a bird and pecked open a giant bamboo stalk. From within emerged Malakas (“Strong”) and Maganda (“Beautiful”), the first humans.
Amihan is also a Filipino word used to describe the cool northeast monsoon breeze that blows across the Philippines between October and April. It brings the best weather condition characterized with cool air, less rain, low humidity, and mild sunshine—fit for a festive season.
Our goal at Amihan is simple: to bring you the soul of Filipino food in a modern casual setting. Inspired by the streets of the Philippines, the flavours and memories of festive seasons, the menu offers a fresh take on Philippine street food, barbeque and traditional favourites.
