What we're about

"Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a miner can become the head of the mine, that the child of a farmer worker can become the president of a great nation" Nelson Mandela

Why should I commit to reading when there are a million other things I could be doing?

Reading new books is a critical way to advance our careers, it is a vital step in becoming a better person, and it is paramount if we want to leave an impact on the world.

Plus it's really fun when you get into it :)

What we do

The Bay Area Book Club is a community focused group. We teach how to get into the habit of reading and rely on our strong community support to keep each other to our goals. To help with this we've set up a facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1591291490937096/?ref=bookmarks) so we can easily stay in contact between meeting and throw up motivational quotes.

We read one book at a time and use our biweekly meeting to discuss the book and teach a reading technique. With each book, we focus on one technique

Example of some of the techniques we'll go over:

Forming the habit of reading

Remembering more of what you read

Speed reading

The general meeting agenda is as follows:

Warm up activity (5 mins)

Lesson on one of the techniques (20 mins)

Break into pairs and discuss the book (20 mins)

Group takeaways (5 mins)

Because there is an instruction portion of the meeting we can't have too many people so we limit it to the first 15 people. Sign up early to be sure you have a spot and if your plans change let us know and we can give your seat to someone on the waitlist.

But I haven't started the book you're halfway through

Have no fear (it's a waste of the imagination)

If you’re not up to date or haven’t started on the book we’re reading don’t worry, you’re more than welcome to come. We’ve designed the club so you can jump in at any time :)

Outside Speakers

In addition, we will be inviting local writers and business owners to come and share their tips, hints, and tricks related to reading.

If you have an idea for someone who would be a good speaker let us know
