"Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a miner can become the head of the mine, that the child of a farmer worker can become the president of a great nation" Nelson Mandela
Why should I commit to reading when there are a million other things I could be doing?
Reading new books is a critical way to advance our careers, it is a vital step in becoming a better person, and it is paramount if we want to leave an impact on the world.
Plus it's really fun when you get into it :)
What we do
The Bay Area Book Club is a community focused group. We teach how to get into the habit of reading and rely on our strong community support to keep each other to our goals.
We read one book at a time and use our biweekly meeting to discuss the book. Our meetups are going to combine hiking with book discussions to take advantage of the beautiful Bay Area sceneries as we discuss great ideas and goals.
The general meeting agenda is as follows:
Meet up and introduce ourselves (15 mins)
Start book discussion (15 mins) - discuss in small groups and talk about the book and get to know each other.
larger discussion on the books and any personal anecdotes or activities - 15 min
Group takeaways - any goal settings, etc. and agenda for next meetup (10 mins).
Because we want to have a quality discussion while getting to know everyone who attends we can't have too many people so we limit it to the first 9 people. Sign up early to be sure you have a spot and if your plans change let us know and we can give your seat to someone on the waitlist.
But I haven't started the book you're halfway through
Have no fear (it's a waste of the imagination)
If you’re not up to date or haven’t started on the book we’re reading don’t worry, you’re more than welcome to come. All we ask for is a good and friendly attitude to learn new things, and a love for the outdoors.
