Hauser & Wirth, Stephen Friedman, Sprueth Magers and David Zwirner

Details
Contemporary Art London events are few and far between at the moment, you may have noticed. But that doesn't mean we can't still have some fabulous days out every so often. Our traditional haunt is the Mayfair galleries, and that's where we'll be heading in June to see some of the very best contemporary art in London.
So, grab your notebooks and prepare for another jaunt around London's incredible art scene with the Contemporary Art London group!
*Note, please read the details of the event below. Exhibitions we're viewing may be subject to change.
About the exhibitions:
Sasha Gordon at Stephen Friedman Gallery
Gordon paints surreal, anthropomorphic versions of herself in hyper-realistic detail. The artist uses these doppelgängers to explore the complexity of her identity as a young, queer, Asian-American woman. Her practice recalls the erotic, highly charged paintings of Paul Cadmus and his documentation of gay life in early 20th-century New York.
Garry Simmons at Hauser & Wirth
Gary Simmons is an American artist from New York City. Using icons and stereotypes of American popular culture, he creates works that address personal and collective experiences of race and class. He is best known for his "erasure drawings," in which he draws in white chalk on slate-painted panels or walls, then smudges them with his hands – a technique that renders their imagery ghostly.
Andro Wekua at Sprueth Magers
Moving freely between figuration and abstraction, Andro Wekua creates multilayered paintings composed of fragments of recollections and figments of the imagination that display various formal layers.
Elizabeth Peyton at David Zwirner
This will be the first presentation of Peyton’s work in London since Aire and Angels, her 2019 exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery which placed the artist’s paintings alongside historical works of portraiture drawn from the museum’s permanent collection.
