For the next discussion we’ll cover two surreal and darkly comic shorts: La Cabina (1972) starring José Luis López Vázquez, and Out of Town (1988) starring David Morrissey.

These shorts have a lot to unpack, and may not be for the faint-hearted. Set in different countries and environments, the films share a common theme in that they are chilling allegories about entrapment and society’s indifference to the misfortune of others.

La Cabina won the 1973 International Emmy Award for Fiction, the only Spanish programme to have won it.

Out of Town was shown as part of Channel 4's "Short & Curlies" season in August 1989.
