Details

Note: This is an open-ended thru-hike. The listed end time is a system placeholder only. There is no fixed end date.

Starting a northbound (NOBO) Pacific Crest Trail beginning May 17, 2026. This event is for those joining the start (with permit) or hiking a section later.

Plan:

  • Start location: Southern Terminus (Campo, CA)
  • Date: May 17, 2026
  • Style: Ultralight / efficient pace
  • Initial segment: Campo → Mt. Laguna (approx. 40+ miles, conditions dependent)...continue to northern terminus at Canadian border

What to expect:

  • Early starts, steady pace
  • Average 15+ miles per day (often around 20 miles/day)
  • Extreme heat, long dry stretches, and extended water carries with full exposure (typical desert and alpine conditions)
  • High elevations above 10,000 ft for extended stretches in the remote Sierra, with possible snow and ice conditions
  • Minimal gear, efficient resupply strategy

You should:

  • Be comfortable with multi-day backpacking
  • Carry an appropriately light setup
  • Be prepared for heat, cold, rain/hail/snow, sun exposure, and limited water

Notes:

  • You are welcome to join for any section or be a trail angel and drop off some goodies along the way
  • This is not a guided trip—everyone is responsible for their own safety and logistics
  • Final details (exact meetup point/time, shuttle, etc.) will be shared closer to the date

Keep it light. Move steady. Start strong.
