Sunrise Hike: Paradise Trail via Gateway Trailhead
Start your day with a beautiful sunrise hike on the Paradise Trail! We’ll hit the trail early to beat the heat and catch the stunning desert sunrise over the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. This 5.6-mile hike is moderate, with a gentle 662 ft elevation gain and an estimated time of about 2 hours and 17 minutes.
Early mornings on the trail mean cooler temperatures, peaceful surroundings, and a chance to see desert wildlife waking up—think lizards, birds, and maybe even a rattlesnake from a safe distance. The trail also offers amazing views of the surrounding mountains and the outskirts of Phoenix.
What to bring:
- Plenty of water
- Proper hiking shoes
- Trekking poles (optional but helpful)
Reminders:
- Arrive 15–20 minutes early to find parking, as it can fill up quickly.
- Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.
Come enjoy the desert at its most peaceful and beautiful!
