New Jersey Day Trip: Grounds for Sculpture & BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham

Details

Join us as we visit two amazing sights in New Jersey. Travel on your own or arrange to carpool with friends to BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham at 112 N Main St, Windsor, NJ 08561. Plan to arrive at 9AM , which is when the gates open to the parking lot. It should take about 1.5 hrs depending on where you are departing from. BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham is the largest Hindu temple in the US and the second largest Hindu temple in the world. It is absolutely stunning and worth a visit. Admission is free. We will spend about 2 hrs exploring the incredible grounds and visiting inside the temple. Modest dress is required: no sleeveless or lowcut tops, no showing of the knees, shoulder, chest or back.

It is a 30 minute drive from BAPS to Grounds for Sculpture and we should arrive between 1130am and 12pm. You must purchase a timed ticket in advance and they are only available 2 weeks in advance. I would suggest waiting until a week before to make sure that there is not a chance of rain. I will keep my eye on ticket purchases to make sure they aren't selling out. Purchase for 12pm. Tickets are $25 or $18 for seniors 65+. Grounds For Sculpture is a museum, sculpture garden, and arboretum where art and nature are always at play. It reminded me of a game of hide and seek, as I hunted down all the 300 sculptures across 42 landscaped acres. They are hidden down treelined paths and in all the nooks and crannies of the gardens. I spent 3 hrs the last time I visited but you are welcome to stay as long as you want. The Grounds close at 5 PM. There are a couple cafes on-site for lunch. No outside food allowed.
