Join us for a fun and relaxed life drawing session at Brockley Brewery! Whether you’re an experienced artist or trying life drawing for the very first time, coming alone or bringing a friend, everyone is welcome.

Build your observational drawing skills in a welcoming, small group session. You’ll be working from a professional life model, with exercises guided by artist and tutor Joe Richardson. Throughout the session, Joe can offer prompts, suggestions and 1-to-1 feedback (optional) to help you build your skills and confidence.

Please aim to arrive 15 minutes early, to allow time to check-in and get comfortable before we start drawing.

Frequently asked questions

What’s included in my ticket?

Your ticket includes the two-hour life drawing session with a live model and tutor. We’ll provide some basic materials, including A4 cartridge paper, pencils, charcoal and clipboards. However, we recommend bringing your own sketchbook and any preferred drawing materials.

Alcoholic beverages and soft drinks are available to purchase separately from the brewery throughout the session.

Do I need to be good at drawing?

Not at all! Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced artist. Life drawing is a mindful practice and a great opportunity to explore your creativity, experiment and develop your skills in a relaxed, supportive environment. There’s no pressure to create a masterpiece - just come along and give it a go.

Will there be a break?

Yes, we’ll have a short comfort break halfway through the session. It’s a chance to chat, top up your drinks or use the restroom before we get back to drawing.

Will the model be nude?

Yes, we work with professional life models who will be nude during the session, allowing you to explore the shapes, shadows and forms of the human figure. If you haven’t tried life drawing before, this might sound a little unfamiliar, but rest assured that the environment is professional, respectful and relaxed. You’ll soon find that drawing from a nude model feels like a natural part of the process!

We work with a range of life models of different genders, ages, backgrounds and body types across our sessions. We will have one model per event, and individual models will vary from session to session.

At the start of each session, we’ll cover some important things to be aware of when working with a life model. Please note that photography and touching the model are not permitted. We ask everyone to respect the model’s privacy and professional boundaries throughout the session.

Will photos be taken during the session?

We don’t take photos of the life models, but we may ask to photograph participants and their work for future promotional content. This is entirely optional, so please let us know before or during the session if you’d prefer not to be photographed.

What if I have an accessibility requirement, learning preference or would like to discuss neurodiversity with the tutor?

If you have a particular learning preference, accessibility consideration or anything else you’d like Joe to know in advance to help him best support you, please get in touch at least 48 hours before the session by emailing joe@joerichardson.net.

The session will take place in the private first-floor space at Brockley Brewery, which is accessed via a set of stairs. If you have any questions or concerns about accessing the space, please get in touch before booking so we can discuss this with the Brockley Brewery team.

How early should we arrive?

We recommend arriving by 6:15pm to check in and get comfortable before we start drawing promptly at 6:30pm.

If you’re running late, we may ask you to wait until the next pose has started before joining the group. This helps us avoid disrupting the session and respect the model’s privacy.

Can I buy a ticket on the door?

We can’t guarantee that tickets will be available on the door, as spaces are limited. We recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. Any door tickets will be subject to availability on the night.

What is the cancellation policy?

You can receive a full refund if you cancel at least 72 hours before the start of the event. Regrettably, cancellations made within 72 hours of the event are not eligible for a refund.

Will there be more sessions?

This is the first trial in what we hope will be a series of life drawing sessions at Brockley Brewery. Please come along and help us make the event a success, and watch this space for future dates.
