Join us for our last Explore Florida trip of the season with Sue Killeen.

We will explore Fort George Island, starting in the parking lot of the Ribault Club. While at the Fort George Island Cultural State Park, we hope to see Least Terns, Royal Terns and Black Skimmers. We also expect Wood Storks, Great Blue Herons and Snowy Egrets along the salt marsh of the Fort George River. A roost for night herons adjacent to a freshwater pond can be viewed along the Fairway Loop trail. Pileated woodpeckers, Great Horned Owls and Bald Eagles can be spotted among the live oaks.

After we finish at Fort George Island, we will either walk or drive over to Kingsley Plantation, which is part of the National Park Service's Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve.

Fort George Island Cultural State Park is free, but there is a per car charge for the Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve of $4 for 1 person in a car and $5 for a car with 2-8 passengers.

Bring good footwear, water, a hat, bugspray and suntan lotion. Afterwards, we may go to a local restaurant near the St. Johns Ferry for lunch.

The entrance to the Fort George Cultural State Park is on Heckscher Road just north of the St. Johns River Ferry.

We encourage you to consider joining St. Johns Regional Audubon, which you can do for as little as $15 per year:
