We are reading Palace Walk, the first novel in Naguib Mahfouz’s Cairo Trilogy, offers a richly detailed portrait of family life in early twentieth-century Cairo. Centered on the authoritarian figure of al-Sayyid Ahmad and the inner lives of his wife and children, the novel examines power, repression, gender, faith, and the tension between tradition and modernity against the backdrop of Egypt’s political awakening.

بين القصرين، الرواية الأولى في ثلاثية القاهرة لنجيب محفوظ، تقدم تصويرًا ثريًا ودقيقًا للحياة الأسرية في القاهرة في مطلع القرن العشرين. وتتمحور الرواية حول شخصية السيد أحمد عبد الجواد السلطوية، والعوالم الداخلية لزوجته وأبنائه، حيث تتناول قضايا السلطة والقمع والهوية والإيمان، والتوتر بين التقاليد والحداثة، على خلفية اليقظة السياسية في مصر.
