About us

Welcome to GTalk: Grounded Conversations and Authentic Brotherhood in Amsterdam

GTalk (Gays Talk) is a community designed for those who crave a deeper level of connection — men who want to build friendships and a low-key brotherhood in a relaxed, dialogue-focused setting.

The modern gay experience is nuanced and, at times, isolating. Many of us navigate a complex middle ground: feeling out of place in mainstream straight environments, yet disconnected from the traditional gay nightlife scene. We spend hours on apps that promise connection but often leave us feeling empty, we struggle to build purely platonic friendships with other men, and we find the modern dating landscape exhausting.

GTalk was created because we realized that while we have spaces to party and spaces to date, we rarely have spaces just to talk. If you want to step out of the hyper-curated, fast-paced gay scene and engage in enriching, straightforward dialogue with men who understand these specific experiences, GTalk is your space.

Who This Group Is For

  • Cisgender Gay Men: Our discussions are specifically centered on the shared life experiences of cisgender gay men. Navigating adolescence, coming out, socializing, and moving through society with this distinct identity comes with unique biological and social complexities. Framing the group around these specific shared realities allows for deeper, highly resonant conversations where we don't have to explain the basics to each other.
  • Ages 27-45: The group is ideally curated for me in this life stage to ensure relatable peer discussions.
  • Single-Focused: While all relationship statuses are welcome, our environment and topics are heavily geared toward single men looking to navigate the dating world, build community, and foster connection.
  • Locals and Internationals: Welkom! Whether you are a Dutch local or an expat, we want you here. Mixing Dutch perspectives with diverse international backgrounds deeply enriches our understanding of the global gay experience. We welcome men from all parts of the Netherlands. Please note that English is our common exchange language.
  • Intimate Group Size: To guarantee that everyone has the time and space to share their thoughts, every session is strictly capped at 8 to 10 men.

How to Join: The Fit Questionnaire
Because we keep our groups small, intimate, and focused, we want to ensure that GTalk is the right environment for you. Before attending your first session, we ask all new members to fill out a brief questionnaire. It takes just 3 to 4 minutes to complete and helps us understand your expectations, ensuring that everyone in the room is there for genuine discussion rather than cruising or therapy.

Privacy and Safety
This is a private group. We respect your boundaries, and no personal information or contact details will be exchanged among attendees unless explicitly and mutually agreed upon.

Our Philosophy: Understanding Over Judgment
We lean into the Socratic method of asking open questions to stimulate thought and bring different ideas to light. You do not need an academic background to join us; you just need an open mind and a willingness to share. Our core mission is to facilitate discussions where the goal is to understand rather than to judge, and to accept rather than to merely tolerate. By genuinely exploring where another person is coming from, we create a room of true welcome. Please note: This is a space for deep, reflective conversations and shared perspectives, not group therapy.

Meet Your Moderator: Mauricio Rojas Durand
I am a proud, 35-year-old single gay man originally from Peru, now living in Amsterdam. Having lived internationally and explored queer scenes around the world, my view of our community and its complexities has been profoundly shaped by diverse cultures. I bring extensive experience in facilitating groups and have been a proud attendee of therapy for the last 10 years—first out of necessity, and now out of curiosity about human nature. My goal is to ensure everyone is heard, respected, and challenged in a healthy, engaging way.
