We Are Currently Experiencing an Unusually High Volume of Mayors
Details
Toronto’s mayor is officially addressed as “Your Worship”—a title of reverence that the office has occasionally struggled to justify.
Every so often, Toronto gets to decide who will next be addressed as Your Worship. The delightful process involves ambitious promises, spontaneously generated campaign signs, and the temporary suspension of disbelief.
Join Nothing to See Here! for a walk through downtown Toronto, visiting places connected to the city’s historic mayors and the history of the office. We’ll explore political scandals, grand ambitions, and civic ceremonies behind these places of worship. Along the way, we’ll uncover the stories of some of Toronto’s lesser-known mayors and consider how a city chooses its leaders, honours them, and occasionally wishes it hadn’t.
How many of Toronto’s mayors rode to work on horseback?
How many of them were named John?
How effective is a can of beans as a ballistic device?
Two out of these three questions are going to be answered.
