About Maria
Maria Young was introduced to the West African drum in 1994, when she took a class at City College SF.
Not long after, she found the dance accompanying the drumming and, upon seeing it, knew immediately that she would dedicate her life to the study and teaching of this amazing art form. She has taught in many places and currently works with mostly children and adults with disabilities. What Maria loves most about this dance is how free it makes her feel, as well as how it engages every part of the body in a very natural way. It is good for the body, mind, and soul. She has often felt in life that this is what she can always return to for sanity, positivity, and a direct way to celebrate life.
