Welcome to the London Art and Culture Group. We had our first event back in October 17th 2009 on Facebook. Now decided to go up a level and advertise the group on here.
This is a group for people who have an interest in visiting museums, galleries and historic houses in and around London. We attract a cosmopolitan crowd who are keen to explore in a social environment what London is best at. Come along and join us at one of our events.
"London is the top visitor destination for culture across the world" - source www.london.gov.uk
Join me for this exhibition showcasing items from John Ruskin's collections of paintings, drawings and casts in the stunning building that is Two Temple Place. There is live background music this evening too Cellist, guitarist and singer Mariska Martina joins us for lyrical jazz. Then head to the pub after for a drink for those that want to!
"John Ruskin: The Power of Seeing will bring together over 190 paintings, drawings, daguerreotypes, metal work, and plaster casts to illustrate how Ruskin’s attitude to aesthetic beauty shaped his radical views on culture and society." ..."Ruskin amassed this collection with a singular purpose – to captivate and inspire its audience, and compel them to action. This exhibition is a visual exploration of the radical, prescient notion at the heart of his philosophy: that in opening ourselves to beauty we can find a more enjoyable and enriching path through our fast-paced and rapidly changing world."
The exhibition is free, however as the venue is small I have organised and booked a slot for a group visit (self guided). For this reason I'm charging a small Meetup organiser fee for this exhibition of £2 to cover my time and Meetup costs to be paid in cash at the event.
I will be outside the entrance to the building from 6:15 wearing a red scarf.
I have Tate Membership, so the FIRST person to sign up I can get in for free!
I hope you can join me for this exhibition at Tate Britain of some of Van Gogh's paintings. Aiming for the 4pm entry slot. Probably a trip to the pub after too..
"This major exhibition brings together 45 works by Vincent van Gogh to reveal how he was inspired by Britain and how he inspired British artists" More information here: https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-britain/exhibition/ey-exhibition-van-gogh-and-britain
This is likely to be a very popular exhibition, and some of the time slots have already sold out, so really advice booking your ticket ASAP if you want to come.
Tickets are £22, or £20 for concessions, Free for members.
Meet at 3:45pm for the 4pm entry slot.
I will wait outside the main entrance to the building, which faces the river, and be wearing a red scarf.
