Epictetus, Discourses and Selected Writings - Diplomats Book Club

We are starting our first book. It is Epictetus' Discourses and selected writings by Robert F. Dobbin. Penguin Classics edition. We will talk about what is in our power. And what is not.

Epictetus says:
"Make the best use of what is in our power, and treat the rest in accordance with its nature."

"Consider at what price you sell your integrity; but please, for God's sake, don't sell it cheap."

"Freedom is not achieved by satisfying desire, but by eliminating it."

"The true man is revealed in difficult times."

"Never identify yourself as a philosopher... act in line with those principles."

This is not a lecture.

This is a conversation. Come with a passage that struck you. Come with a question. Come with an open mind. No prior philosophy needed. Just bring the book. And bring yourself.
