OKR for Software Development Teams
Details
OKR (Objectives and Key Results) is a simple, lean goal system used by global organizations to create alignment and engagement around measurable goals.
The original OKR concept came from Intel and spread to other Silicon Valley companies by venture capitalist John Doerr. Google adopted OKR in 1999, during its first year. It has supported Google’s growth from 40 employees to more than 100,000 today.
Besides Google, other companies use OKR, including Spotify, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Airbnb. But the OKR system is not only for digital companies. Walmart, Target, The Guardian, Dun and Bradstreet, and ING Bank are also using OKR.
Creating alignment in the organization is one of the main OKR benefits. The goal is to ensure everyone (including technology teams) is going in the same direction, with clear priorities, in a constant rhythm.
The entire organization can benefit from using OKR--including software development teams.
Team-level and department-level Objectives help developers and knowledge creators work together and stay on track, while individual Objectives are motivating and encourage team members to obtain greater results than they previously thought possible.
During this hands-on Meetup, we’ll discuss the fundamentals of OKR creation, including how to craft an effective tech-team OKRs. We’ll also provide OKR examples for inspiration at all levels of the development team.
Our conversation will be facilitated by Robert Palmer and Karen Zheng.
We will be using ZOOM for this online Meetup.
For community security considerations, every participant will need to create a ZOOM account prior to joining the session. Please allow sufficient time pre-meeting to login as sometimes Zoom has software updates.
Thank you!
We look forward to seeing you online soon.
