How to get started with contributing to open source

Details

Companies all around the world rely on open source. These free and open projects are created and maintained out of the generosity and good heart of people dedicating their free time in order to help the greater community. Contributing to opensource can be a very meaningful and rewarding experience. It can help you grow and challenge you in ways that better your abilities. And did we mention it looks great on your CV?

Dayan Kodippily has 14 years of experience in Java distributed systems, across different industries including healthcare and finance. He has worked in Malaysia national technology research and development centre before coming to NZ and joining Westpac. He will be sharing his personal story of how he got involved with open source contribution. Come along and learn why you should contribute, how to get started at any level and what to expect when contributing to these projects. In this session your will find ways to determine which projects you should contribute to, to get the most out of your experience and what pitfalls to look out for.

This talk is for those who have no experience in open source and for those who have had experience and want to compare notes with Dayan. Whether you are a newbie or a seasoned veteran you will get a lot out of contributing to open source.
