Tao Te Ching Study (Free)

Details

Tao Te Ching (道德經) was spoken by the wise man Laozi in ancient China, c.500BC. This book is one of the most widely studied and influential works of philosophy and spirituality. It has been embraced by the world and translated into many languages.

In English you will find many translations that are beautifully poetic, but can differ greatly from the original Chinese text. This is because The Tao Te Ching was written in a classical form with few words. In Chinese, this style enables the reader to gain many insights from a single character but makes it difficult to translate these complex mysteries into another language.

We provide our own translation which aims to use words and meanings as close to the original Chinese text as possible. We hope this will provide a useful stepping stone for those who wish to explore the mysteries of Tao.

Tao Te Ching study is held in Blacktown Library
on April 19 and 26, 2025 from 10:30am to 12:00pm.
