What we’re about
Welcome to Unthinkable!
The goal of this meetup group is to focus more on in-depth discussions and thought-provoking philosophical arguments. Nothing is sacred but at the same time respect is an essential factor.
We cannot discuss a topic in-depth without having enough knowledge first, so in events of this meetup group, we will focus on a chapter or two of a book that we read beforehand and then we discuss what we learned and our thoughts over a cup coffee, what can be better than that?! In a world that everything should be fast and easy, we will go against this flow, slowly, with deliberation and that's what counts!
An unexamined life is not worth living.

Maimonides - The Guide for the Perplexed
OBA Oosterdok - Public Library, Oosterdokskade 143, 7th floor, Amsterdam, NLMoses Maimonides (1138–1204), also known as Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon or by the acronym Rambam, was a Jewish philosopher, theologian, and physician from Córdoba, Spain, later living in Morocco and Egypt. He is one of the greatest figures in Jewish thought, whose works also influenced Islamic and Christian philosophy. Maimonides sought to harmonize faith and reason, showing that religious truth and philosophical truth ultimately point to the same reality.
📖 About The Guide for the Perplexed
The Guide for the Perplexed is Maimonides’ masterwork, written in Arabic around 1190 for his student Joseph ben Judah. It addresses readers who are “perplexed” — those who struggle to reconcile religious faith with philosophical and scientific understanding.
In this session, we’ll explore Maimonides’ deep philosophical reflections on how humans can—and cannot—speak about God. Drawing from The Guide for the Perplexed, we’ll discuss why Maimonides rejects attributing positive qualities to God, emphasizing instead negative theology—the idea that we can only describe what God is not.
We will read the first 11 pages of this pdf:
