About us
The so-called "gray divorce" in midlife can be an emotional, pivotal, and powerful point in a woman's life. At times, it can also be overwhelming. Helpful information, regulated emotions, and confidence are crucial to making good decisions along the way in order to re-invent a future aligned with values and priorities in focus.
And peer discussion and support with face-to-face connection goes a LONG way during this time too! That's why I created this group.
**SEE BOTTOM OF DESCRIPTION FOR IMPORTANT SCHEDULING INFO** [added 7/13/26]
This virtual group is for women (cis or trans) and nonbinary individuals in their late 40s, 50s, 60s and older who are thinking about divorce, or who are already in the early or middle stages of divorce after a long-term marriage. The goal is for members to find community by interacting in a supportive environment with others going through the same thing, and to gain valuable insight about what it's like to go through a gray divorce.
This group is geared toward women/nonbinary individuals in the Boston / South Shore area but is open to those from any geographic location because we will meet virtually. Online events will run about 75 to 90 minutes, and will be facilitated/moderated by Kristen M. Ploetz, a certified divorce coach who has also been through her own gray divorce. ALTHOUGH KRISTEN IS A CERTIFIED DIVORCE COACH AND FORMER FAMILY LAW ATTORNEY, EVENTS WILL NOT BE USED TO SOLICIT COACHING CLIENTS AND NO LEGAL ADVICE WILL BE GIVEN. Most events will be virtual discussion groups and will be free of charge. However, from time to time optional writing workshops will also be offered with a nominal fee to cover materials and preparation expenses.
Anticipated discussion group topics include:
- how to find the right divorce professionals who understand gray divorce issues
- how to pivot away from unmet plans and expectations late in life
- the emotional overwhelm that can be simultaneous with change/transitions, re-entering the workforce, adjusting caretaking roles, going through menopause
- thinking about the impact on adult children
- helpful communication strategies with a co-parent/ex-spouse
- how to make decisions with confidence
This group welcomes women+ from heterosexual and LGBTQ marriages alike.
Hope you will join us!
SCHEDULING INFORMATION:
- Events will typically take place on weekdays between 12-1:30 PM EST or 6:30-8:00 PM EST but some will be scheduled at other times as needed.
- During Summer 2026 and early Fall, there will not be a consistent event schedule due to the facilitator/organizer's availability, but a more consistent/regular schedule of events is anticipated after mid-September.
- At this time, each event will be capped at eight (8) participants. If you register ahead and realize you cannot attend, please remove yourself from the list so that others may take your spot.
- At this time, all events will be virtual. If you register for an event, you will receive an email with the Zoom link and/or the link will be visible on the specific event page. If you do not see a link after registering, contact the facilitator via direct message at least one day before the event.
- All registration windows close by 9:00AM EST the day of the event.
- Please be on time for the event. Given that the duration is limited in nature, it is most effective and respectful to fellow attendees to arrive on time in order to have quick introductions before starting the substantive portion of the event.
- REGARDING NO SHOWS PART 1: In the event that no registered attendees show up within ten (10) minutes after the event start time, the facilitator/organizer will cancel the event and delete the Zoom link for that event.
- REGARDING NO SHOWS PART 2: If you register and "no show" for three events without prior communication to the facilitator/organizer that something has come up that conflicts with your attendance, you will be removed from the group.
