December Book Selection: Skipping Christmas by John Grisham

Details

Our December Book: Skipping Christmas: A Novel by John Grisham (but there's more, so keep reading!)

Let’s celebrate the holidays by reading a SHORT book (we are all busy this time of year!) AND enjoying a lovely Italian dinner at Ristorante Bottaio (Libertyville). (Note: We are a new book club group - so not everyone knows each other. If this is your first time, you will not feel uncomfortable - I promise!)

I also apologize that the book has “Christmas” in the title. I looked for holiday books that didn't focus just on Christmas and so many of them are romance. This month’s book was also made into a movie, which should be fun for those of us who have seen the movie (Christmas with the Kranks).

Please also bring a wrapped book for our holiday celebration book exchange (the book does not need to be holiday related, the celebration will be though).

The book can be new or very gently used, but should be in pristine condition. (If it’s been in the bathroom with you for any length of time, please do not bring.) It can be any topic but be prepared to say why you selected it. (And saying that you “bought it 10 years ago to read and just never found the time” is a perfectly acceptable reason!) But perhaps you are selecting because it’s one of your favorite books, or you’ve heard really good things about it.

We will take turns selecting. And there may or may not be “stealing” involved. So make it a good one that everyone will want to steal! 😊
We will have separate checks. Click here for the menu.

Our December Book: Skipping Christmas: A Novel by John Grisham
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In this classic tale for modern times, beloved storyteller John Grisham offers a hilarious look at the chaos and frenzy that have become part of our holiday tradition. This book is the inspiration for the film Christmas with the Kranks, starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis.

About the Book:
Imagine a year without Christmas. No crowded malls, no corny office parties, no fruitcakes, no unwanted presents. That's just what Luther and Nora Krank have in mind when they decide that, just this once, they'll skip the holiday altogether.

Theirs will be the only house on Hemlock Street without a rooftop Frosty; they won't be hosting the annual Christmas Eve bash; they aren't even going to have a tree. They won't need one, because come December 25 they're setting sail on a Caribbean cruise. But, as this couple is about to discover, skipping Christmas brings enormous consequences - and isn't half as easy as they'd imagined.

A classic tale for modern times, Skipping Christmas offers a hilarious look at the charm and frenzy that have become part of our holiday tradition.
