One of the most popular and talked about texts in all of history, the 'Daodejing' (also known as 'Tao Te Ching') by Laozi (also known as Lao Tzu), is an ancient book that is open to multiple interpretations.

The book presented a way of life intended to restore harmony to a war-torn kingdom. It was critical of the behaviour of self-serving rulers and skeptical of social activism based on abstract moralism and blind conservatism.

Since 1900, more than 400 translations have appeared in English alone.
