Details

Join us for Wroclaw Open Source Meetup #14 on Wednesday, April 3rd at 18:00!

Open up the spring season with Antmicro and the Wroclaw Open Source Meetup series, focusing on the latest high-tech and open source topics prepared for the Wroclaw computer engineering community.
As always, we're scheduling two talks, a Q&A session and a networking afterparty till late.

Agenda:

1. Nix and reproducibility; Nikodem Rabulinski, Antmicro

Abstract: Nix has been growing in popularity lately and is advertised as a unique package manager… or is it? We will discuss what it means for something to be reproducible, why you should care, what is the essence of Nix, and finally - what’s all the rage that makes everyone try it. Is it really the silver bullet for both deployments and developer environments? Can it really save you from having to format your system on a regular basis? What are the caveats? We will discuss this and more, no prior experience needed!

2. RDFM - an open-source modular framework for multi-OS OTA updates and fleet management; Lukasz Kedziora, Antmicro

Modern embedded systems are increasingly complex and consist of equal parts hardware and software. An often overlooked process in the deployment of such devices is the update mechanism, which plays an extremely important part in ensuring their security and longevity. Additionally, in very early stages, it is easy to overlook the fact that the system must work reliably with increasingly large numbers of devices, while still allowing management functionality over the rapidly growing fleet.
In this talk, we will present Remote Device Fleet Manager - Antmicro’s open source update and fleet management framework for embedded devices. By going through the problems RDFM is aiming to solve, we will see how this solution has grown and evolved over time to resolve common pain points of updating embedded devices. We will learn about the technical details of the framework and how it can be applied to an entire fleet of devices, as well as show some practical examples of how you can use and integrate RDFM updates with a device.
