## This is a free Meetup Event, and a continuation of an Experiment from last summer. We will sit in the last 9 rows which are free. Although you are advised not to bring cans or glass, or alcohol, we can picnic.

Performance time 8:15 p.m. nightly
The idea is we meet for a picnic, listen to music, drink some wine as a group outside the Muny Theatre. I suggest we meet at the UPPER Level, and as you walk in from the parking lot, go to the LEFT of the theatre entrance and we can set up blankets, chairs and visit prior to the show. I don’t know how many would be interested, but I sat in the free seats for Frozen, Jersey Boys and Evita. Great shows.

## The story behind the music.

My first starring role in high school was this musical. The plot centers on an American nurse stationed on a South Pacific island during World War II, who falls in love with a middle-aged expatriate French plantation owner but struggles to accept his mixed-race children. A secondary romance, between a U.S. Marine lieutenant and a young Tonkinese woman, explores his fears of the social consequences should he marry his Asian sweetheart. The issue of racial prejudice is candidly explored throughout the musical.
