We're going to try this one again. Last time, we cancelled due to 100-degree weather. This time will be warm, but not impossible!
Let's paddle the Kentucky River, Pool 6, from Oregon Road Boat Ramp. We'll go upstream as far as we feel like for about 2 hours, admiring the palisades and wildlife as we go, and then return to the ramp to take out. Unless we have really bad storms this week, the current on the river will be almost non-existent, so paddling upstream will be easy (and paddling downstream will be necessary!). We'll probably paddle about 6-7 leisurely miles in total.
Paddles in the water at 11:00 a.m. If you're late, go right (upstream, east) from the ramp to catch up.
Bring all the usual stuff: pfd, sunblock, a hat, plenty of hydration, a snack. No fee for the Oregon Boat ramp. I don't think there's a porta-potty on site.
You must bring your own boat for this trip -- sorry, no rentals available. This is not a float: we won't paddle too fast on this trip, but we will paddle. Because it's an out-and-back trip (no shuttle necessary) you can always accompany us for part of the trip and then head back when you're ready.
If the weather turns bad, we'll make the decision to cancel by 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Watch this page!
